Interview with founder of ICO Group
Project: The ICO Group is a framework for researchers in Northeast Ohio and Israel to connect through applied research projects. This is a match-making service for researchers to learn about other complementary expertise and collaborative funding opportunities.
In one sentence, tell us who you are.
I am a Jew, Zionist, Ohioan, and proud and loving member of my family and friends. I believe in happy fun but still being able to get things done.
What inspired you to embark on the path of an innovator?
An idea in the shower.
What challenges do you foresee in your field?
Showing the value of this to research faculty. The key to this project will be few initial examples of success.
Who can you relate to in Jewish history (or in your field of interest)?
The founders of the Israeli universities who pioneered the innovation that has made Israel the technological leader it is today.
What is the most valuable thing you have learned from the PresenTense community?
A sense of urgency for change in the Jewish community.
Who have you met at PresenTense that has made the most impact on your project?
My cluster, Ariel, and Aharon have given me extremely valuable advice and continue to inspire me to move forward.
What big question are you struggling with right now?
When will the City of Cleveland ever win a major sports championship?
If all goes as planned, where will your project be one year from now?
It will create at least two successful research collaborations between Israel and Northeast Ohio that are either funded or in the process of getting funded.
What do you hope to see change / to help change in your field in the next ten years?
A greater sense of higher education as the greatest economic development tool and change-maker on Earth.
What is your vision for the future of PresenTense?
That they can reach even more young social enrepreneurs while giving them the same level of personal attention from their highly qualified staff.
